Here's the gear I took when I started my thru-hike in February:

North Face internal frame pack (switched to Gregory Thru-Hiker pack in TN)

Downtimer (minus 20 degrees) down sleeping bag & waterproof stuff-sack (swapped for 20 degree Kelty quallofil sleeping bag on April 1st)(swapped for lighter weight summer bag on May 19th)

Thermarest 3/4 length mattress

RidgeRest 1/4 length mattress (I cut off a chunk of a full length mattress to sit on and make up for the 3/4 thermarest.)(sent home May 19th)

L.L. Bean Cresta hiking boots (size 13 -- swapped for size 14 on April 1st)

lightweight sandals

3 pr. wool socks, 3 pr. polypro liner socks

2 pr. polypro boxers, 1 pr. polypro long underwear

REI nylon convertible pants/shorts
